Field Superintendent

The Structural Steel Superintendent will perform job duties and responsibilities safely, efficiently, and accurately while assisting project management in coordinating and supervising work activities.

Qualifications

  • High school degree or equivalent.
  • Three years of relevant working experience as a Superintendent on large industrial construction projects.
  • Knowledge of MS Office, primarily Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrates leadership and ability to work well with others.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented and willing to tackle various ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent multitasking skills, with the ability to perform duties outside of scope of work when necessary.
  • Travel required.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the project team by providing input to identify key success factors, timing of design and procurement deliverables, and establishing common work breakdown structures.
  • Provides leadership to cause the creation of organizational structure and processes required to fully execute the requirements of services and is responsible for the execution of structural ironwork services, quality, subcontractor performance, and construction cost.
  • Evaluates structural ironwork service execution for compliance to contract, design data, schedule, cost budgets, and quality, advising the project team of status, issues, impacts, risk, and cost influence factors on to-go scope.
  • Monitors the implementation of safety orientations, safety indoctrinations, and gang box meetings and provides coaching for improvement.
  • Assists project management in controlling project costs and maintaining overall profitability for the project.
  • Examines project schedule(s) and coordinates labor, materials, and equipment required for various project tasks through structural steel.
  • Monitors all ironwork activities and instructs superintendents and foremen regarding desired labor methods and required equipment and material necessary to complete project tasks.
  • Assures all production work is within project specifications and continually monitors work progress and quality of work.
  • Inspects project work activities and serves to advise superintendents and foremen of possible hazards and assists all supervision in maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Coordinates with engineers, client/owner, inspectors, etc., to isolate project design and/or specification problems and assists in developing solutions to these problems.
  • Maintains project progress and cost data to assist in analyzing work efficiency.
  • Regularly attends project safety meetings and serves to advise supervision and employees of specific work areas and conditions that require safety attention, stressing compliance with company and regulatory safety procedures.
  • Complete projects and other duties as assigned.

Required

  • Experience in an industrial or heavy commercial construction environment, oil and gas, or engineering industry.
  • Strong structural background on large industrial construction projects.

Quality Control Inspector – NDT – VT/MT Experience

Quality Control Inspection in the production realm to determine and ensure that the qualities of raw materials that are in process and/or completed product are of standard and/or above quality specifications.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Identify critical points or hold points in the fabrication and installation processes and specify testing procedures to be used at these points.
  • Perform visual weld inspections to specified code.
  • Perform dimensional inspections to approved shop drawings, codes, and specifications.
  • Monitor the Welders (i.e., preheat, welding parameters, welding positions).
  • Analyze quality control test results and provide feedback and interpretation to management and staff.
  • Communicate quality control information to all relevant departments.
  • Document final inspections, which include dimensional, weld, material finishes, and coatings.
  • Evaluate testing methods and procedures to determine how they may be improved.
  • Identify quality problems and recommend solutions.
  • Monitor testing procedures to ensure that all tests are performed according to established item specifications, standard test methods, or protocols.
  • Assist fitters and welders on shop floor with problem-solving.
  • Must be able to work overtime when needed.

Education/Work Experience Requirements

  • Three to five years related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Familiarity with N.D.T. processes (VT and MT).

Ironworker

Responsible for laying out and fabricating structural steel and sheet metal in order to build metal structures. Welds and cuts steel, interprets blueprints, and works with concrete reinforcing steel bars. Ability to work out of town.

Essential Functions

  • Build and install iron or steel girders, columns, and other construction materials to form buildings, bridges, and other structures.
  • Cut, position, and bolt down steel bars to reinforce concrete.
  • Repair older infrastructure.
  • Make, weld, and cut structural metal in fabricating shops.
  • Erect steel frames.
  • Direct operation of cranes to move structural steel, reinforcing bars, and other materials onto and around the construction site.
  • Connect steel columns, beams, and girders.
  • Drill holes into steel for bolts.
  • Number steel according to assembly instructions.
  • Unload and stack steel.
  • Attach cables to steel and then to the crane.
  • Hoist steel into place in the framework.
  • Position steel with connecting bars and spud wrenches.
  • Work with drift pins to align the holes in the steel with the framework holes.
  • Use plumb bobs, levels, and laser equipment to check alignment.
  • Bolt or weld piece into place.
  • Set reinforcing bars into forms to hold concrete.
  • Fasten bars together with wire.
  • Place spacers under rebar to lift bars off deck.
  • Cut bars with metal shears and torches.
  • Reinforce concrete with welded wire fabric.
  • Substitute cables for rebar.
  • Tighten cables with jacking equipment.
  • Install stairs, handrails, or curtain walls.
  • Make sure all pieces are fitted properly and complete repairs as necessary.

Structural Steel/Miscellaneous Iron Estimator

The Estimator position performs complete structural steel and miscellaneous metals estimates for construction projects. Assignments will include quantity take-off, material and labor pricing, bid solicitation, and compiling cost history. The Estimator will prepare detailed proposals, make all necessary copies of plans, and create files for completed bids.

Skills/Qualifications

  • Five (5) years experience required.
  • Strong structural steel background as it applies to industrial and commercial construction.
  • Strong understanding of all structural steel and miscellaneous metals components as it applies to shop fabrication and site erection.
  • Excel, Word, and Bluebeam experience required. Understanding of the FabSuite estimating software a plus.
  • Ability to interpret structural and architectural drawings for the purpose of estimating, pricing, and submitting a quote to general contractors.
  • Ability to interpret shop drawings.
  • Understanding of structural steel design, fabrication, and installation, including anchor bolts, embeds, bollards, columns, beams, braces, O.W.S joists, steel decking, steel stairs, railings, guard rails, RTU frames, ladders, gate enclosures, and other miscellaneous metals as required by job.
  • A general understanding of the AWS D1.1 welding code and AISC Standards.
  • Ability to work independently while being precise and accurate.
  • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to pay attention to detail.
  • Recognize and deal with priorities. A willingness to work extra hours as required to have accurate estimates out on time.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Prepare bid packages for structural and miscellaneous steel projects.
  • Prepare conceptual estimates for structural steel design build/design assist projects.
  • Review specifications and scopes. Prepare estimates in an accurate, timely, and detailed manner through all stages of the project.
  • Prepare accurate proposals in compliance with the bid documents.
  • Attend pre-bid and scope review meetings with general contractors/construction managers.
  • Perform post-bid follow-up and negotiations.
  • Review and price RFI’s.
  • When project is sold, follow company job start-up procedures so projects are turned over to project management in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Co-ordinate and build relationships with general contractors, erectors, detailers, suppliers, our shop, etc.
